Surf4Shea is a platform whose sole purpose is raising awareness about hydrocephalus. Why hydrocephalus? For us, it’s personal.

On December 17, 2015, Seamus (Shea), came into the world. After receiving his initial diagnosis at just two months old, Shea underwent brain surgery (i.e., a ventriculoperitoneal shunt operation where the pediatric neurosurgeon inserted a drainage tube into his brain; the tube runs into Shea’s abdominal cavity and is used to move extra fluid in the brain to the abdomen where it can be absorbed). With the support of family, friends and medical experts, Shea is living the “shunt life” and thriving despite his hydrocephalus condition.

The literal translation of hydrocephalus is “water” and “head.”  Surf4Shea is rooted in the healing power of water. Water in all its forms and interactions has the ability to nourish the mind, body and soul. Shea's condition and the surf present a perfect vehicle for raising awareness.
